Very neat! These were introduced a little while before I became interested in medals, and a couple years later, I purchased a set of the four in individual velvet presentation cases. Do you know what the original prices were from the Mint? Chris
Silver NWRS Centennial Medals Available By Subscription from the United States Mint The limited edition 2003 National Wildlife Refuge System Centennial Medal Series, available for $29.50, shares a common obverse honoring President Theodore Roosevelt, the Refuge System's founder, and four successive reverse images – a bald eagle, salmon, an elk, and canvasback ducks. The series highlights the diversity of the Refuge System. A portion of the proceeds will be used to fund refuge education and interpretive projects. Production is limited to 35,000 for the bald eagle medal, and 25,000 each for the elk, salmon and canvasback ducks designs. A bronze version of the medal featuring the bald eagle design will be sold separately for $4.50. Shipping of the silver bald eagle medal will begin in mid-summer, with each successive medal shipped every four to six weeks. The US Mint expects the series to sell quickly. You can order the silver medal series at http://catalog.usmint.gov or by calling 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468).
Thanks for the info! Wow, I feel pretty good now. I bought all four of them on eBay about 6 years ago for $50. Chris
Yes, oh how the mighty have fallen. These sold out quickly and for awhile brought silly money on eBay. As with most such issues, they have now crashed back down to reality.
Slots-A-Fun in Vegas has (had) a "Nevada Wildlife" series of $10 gaming tokens that are (were) dispensed from two of their slot machines. Before my Mom passed, we would go out for two weeks every year, and I was collecting the whole series. Of course, you never know which one you'll win. You just have to take your chances. I accumulated 45 of the following: Bald Eagle, Bighorn Sheep, Desert Tortoise, Gila Monster, Gray Wolf & Mountain Bluebird. Chris
