Hi everybody, New guy here. I've already introduced myself in the introduction forum, so, to get down to business..... Recently, I've become a fan of the $2.00 note. I can't really put my finger on it, I just really like them. So, as a result, when I head to the bank on payday, to get some spending cash, I usually request a portion ($10-$20 worth or so) in twos. After which, I usually look through them, to see if any are worth hanging onto, in my humble opinion. This week, I was pleasantly surprised to find these two, in what the teller gave me: 1953 US Note 1976 FRN with first date of issue stamp: The paper residue on the '76 is from a postage stamp, that was affixed to the note, but is now long gone. Apparently, you could bring them to your local post office, on the first day they were re-issued, and get them stamped with "April 13, 1976" and then have a stamp affixed to them? My guess is to keep as a memento, or collectible, of sorts. As for the '53, it's really rough, and heavily circulated, but I was stoked to get it, regardless. You rarely ever see notes that age, in circulation, anymore. Especially two's. If that note could talk, I'd bet it has some stories. After 56 years, it'd have to.
Pretty cool! I would take a different approach. Since you're collecting paper money ($2's), instead of restricting yourself to only $10 -$20, get as many as you can. Ask for all they have or the maximum you can buy yourself. That would increase your chances of finding something worthwhile and possibly rare. Also, ask if they have any "old-looking" bills. You'll be surprised what people will turn into to the bank. It's not like coin-roll hunting where you wind up with hundreds of dollars of rolled coins that you have to try to dispose of. You have banknotes that anyone will take. Just my opinion. Good luck with your searching!

This one was fun. It is a "Garage Sale" find. But I didn't BUY it at a garage sale, it was given to me as payment for $2 worth of items at a garage sale I was having! I saw the red seal and thought cool... then I saw the large TWO on the right side and thought REALLY COOL. The same lady came back the next day and paid with 3 - 1935 E Series $1 Silver Certificates, a 1953 A Series $5 Silver Certificate and a 1928 E Series Red Seal $ 5. I was very happy! I love to get "Cool" cash when you have a garage sale. Ben

That would be pretty cool. Magman: Thanks! That's a gorgeous star note, and that's cool that yours still has the postage stamp on it. I'm hoping I find a star soon (either a $2, or any denomination). I have come across a few (some $1's and a couple of $5's) but that was before I really got into money collecting, and I didn't know what they were. Oh well, live and learn. mpcusa: Thank you! I thought they were pretty nice too. I wish the '53 US note was in better shape, but hey, beggars can't be choosers. I'm just happy to have found it.....in a stack of bills from the bank, no less! Yokozuna: That $2 is really neat! It looks to be a 1928 G series, if I'm reading it correctly. To get that, plus the silver certs, and red seal $5, all within 48 hours? That's pretty cool. Thanks! I do appreciate the welcome. Yep, I figured these two deuces would be a good starting point, for what will hopefully, eventually be a pretty good collection. I'm really excited to get into this hobby. I can't wait until Friday (my next day off) so I can head to my local numismatic shop, and get some protective plastic sleeves (called "toploaders" I believe) for my two's, and any other bills I happen to come across.
^^ yea, i need some currency sleeves bad! the shop thats a block away does not carry them. and i am to lazy to go to the one in the city. i got around 7 notes in envelopes, because its the best thing i have to protect them.
I won't say its common but I have gone through 3600 $2 bills in the last few years. I have picked up probably 10-15 red seal $2's. Your odds of getting a red seal are much higher with two dollar bills than fives or ones. In the last 10 years I have gone through 20,000 one dollar bills and I have found a total of 1 silver cert. The only part that sucks about the red seal $2's is that two dollar bills are considered bad luck. To counter the bad luck you are supposed to tear a corner off of the bill. Many of the red seals I have found have at least one corner torn.
I found a 1976 $2 note that said it was given at someones Birthday party on June 6th, 1982 found it odd that the bill had not been shredded yet.
