In case you're wondering, that's For No Good Reason! I needed to move some stuff around, and I had a really good workout with my Westward Journey nickel rolls and bags. I've never bothered tallying them, until now that is, and I have 42 Mint-wrapped rolls for all of the 2004-2006 designs for each mintmark, 82 OBW rolls (missing some designs and/or mintmarks, 10 - $50 bags (one for each design and mintmark) that are now in square coin tubes and two $50 bags (one each of P&D) of the RTM that have never been removed from the shipping boxes. I must confess! I am a FNGR Hoarder! What about you? Chris
everytime I see a Morgan or Peace Dollar in resonable shape for 15-22 bucks I always buy it if I have the money with me. I don't know why but I just seem to hoard them along with Walker 1/2 in any shape or date. Ice
So far it's just cents. I know I have to get rid of them but it's so hard to part with. I have about 500 pounds, including my metal detecting finds, sitting in buckets all around the house.
I keep those when I find them, but wouldn't go out of my way to get them. I am considering saving memorial cents, but haven't went there yet. And I save all the state quarters I find, for no good reason With the national park series coming for the next 10 years, I should start saving the eagle reverse quarters. Those are going to be the rarer ones once national parks ends, and who knows if they decide on another special design program once it's over. Let's hear it for hoarding! LOL
Hoarding is fun whether for fun or profit. I admit I will always buy good ancient coin books for a low price, regardless of how many copies I have. I even just bought 5 copies of a book on Ebay since I was interested in it and got all 5 for the price I would have paid for one. I also buy lots sometimes, and get a lot of coins I am not interested in with the few I am interested in. Just cannot seem to sell them though....
16,960 Westward Journey nickels...... By my calculations, I could tile the floor of an area approximately 10'x10' with 16,900 of them and still have enough left over for a beer at the bar. Chris
I buy coins for specific purposes. Generally speaking, to complete a set. I haven't bought a coin "just because" in a LONG while.
I am trying to only buy coins to fill in the gaps in my collection. For example there are only 4 dimes I am currently looking for in my 1900 to current run.... however if I see a year pre 1900 that I don't have it might end up being bought. Then again I picked up a 3 cent coin a few weeks ago even though I wasn't collecting them, guess I started another collection... Then I saw a confederate $50 bill that I liked even though I wasn't collecting bills, started that one too... I have no self control.
I hold on to pre '82 lincoln cents and pre '60 jeffersons (I would do pre '70 but there would be no room haha)
Confession Must confess. I still have one P~D Keelboat unopened & still in mint box set. Guess it is because they cruise the Keelboat reproduction past my river camp every few years. And I'm working on turning '44~'46 Wheaties into guitar picks by placing them onto RR tracks. Try it/you'll like it.
