Brand new member here! I don't do much coin collecting myself however, my father is a coin collecter. Since working at a bank I have decided to maybe start thumbing through some of the paper money before I dish it out to customers. Found one I thought may be unique as it is pictured below. I don't know much about rare paper money so any help would be appreciated, what do you think I have here? Is it unique? From some of the things I have read, some star notes can be rare. I figure some of you could help me!

    Thanks,
    lvaughn

I keep star notes that I find, but I don't think any premium is really warranted until they get older. They're used to replace defective notes before going into circulation.

it's from a run of 384,000. nice find, imo. :thumb::thumb: i've yet to find one from a run of less than 3.2 million.

Thanks, didn't notice the lower serial number until you pointed it out. Weird that star notes are used to replace defective notes and this note seems to be misaligned... are misaligned notes not considered "defective" or do both sides need to be off center before they call them defective? New to this, just curious

Don't know if it being that off center would lower it's value or if it would be considered an error. I lean towards an error note because of how off center that is. And as swish points out, that note is from a very small run, definitely a keeper. In fact, if you don't want to keep it PM me and I will make you an offer for it.

To tell you the truth. I'm not sure if I want to collect, or just get and sell. Sure, it may be worth more in 30 years but i'm a broke college kid! This seems to be a little addicting and interesting at the same time. I will let you know tomorrow if i am hooked after counting through straps of each bill....;)

Well first I should say welcome to the PM Forum.
Second let me say I see more interest in turning a profit than actual collecting of the notes.
To each their own I suppose...so the question I have for you is this; What are you going to pay the folks that help you make a profit, since you do not know what to look for yourself?
Just a point you should consider before asking for help.

good point rickie! i would say its worth $22 and will only take a modest 12% for helping, so ship it out for $19.64!

i am just joking, nice find! i hope you find more, just don't get carried away and get your boss mad at you.

    and welcome :welcome:

Nice star note! I'd keep it, if I could spare the 20 bucks.

Nice find, keep looking, keep reading and asking questions, buy a book - it will help you better understand what to look for. Make sure you do not let it interfer with your job or you may be looking for a new one.

    Good Luck!!!

Not a bad place to be when looking for stuff. My friend used to work a register at krogers and would find all kinds of silver coins in the change when opening rolls.

From what I have heard, a note doesn't start picking up a decent premium unless it has shifted so far that a portion of the design is missing. I think technically as long as the entire design is on the paper it is within tolerance. From your pic I can't tell if the design is cut or not. However, because of the irony of this off center being on a star note, you might get a premium for it.
