Hey guys, Just thought I would post up a newp. Here's a 1794 Liberty Cap cent. Attribution ? Thoughts ?
I like it, but I'll leave the attribution to someone with the book. But I am VERY curious about what it would grade. Based strictly on the head and the wreath I would say it's AU (I've got an XF-45 and the detail on your coin is better). BUT I don't know what affect the die alignment has. Nor the slight planchet porosity. Waiting for one of the pros to chime in.
Give me a little bit and I'll come up with something. I've spent most of my day looking at the old issues of Penny-Wise on CD. Definitely the S-59. R3-. Thick Hair Wide Date/Left Ribbon Bow Double Cut. Break from fraction through ribbon into A. Since weaknesses at UN and LI are at the same part of the planchet, I suspect a thin spot on the planchet rather than wear.
Marshall beat me to it. S-59. LIBERTY is down close to the hair that makes it after about S-44. The hair wave is sitting right down on top of the 1. That makes it S-58 or 59 (same obv.) Right stem points at A3 S-59. (On S-58 it points to the right of the A.)
Very nice! Planchet slightly rough, but great details and a very nice coin. I think marshall hit the variety.
