Jason, I saw your bid in on this beauty! Really thought you would forego the home repairs for this one! WOW, what a nice coin, agreed? I think hammer was $480. I pulled the trigger @ $451. with a minute to go. Thought I wanted it as it did appear to be a good candidate for FS also! Cannot even imagine why the owner didn't have this slabbed! Could easily have doubled its value. Hope it went to a nice home!
It certainly looked like a nice EDS to me. I have always had good luck with that seller and his photos are always nice. I think I bagged out in the mid $200 range. Not too sure why he didn't have it slabbed but it certainly was a nice coin. On a side note I just uploaded a reproduced article from Alan Herbert from 1978 about this coin on my site. I have also been reading old back issues from PAK and for months they were boasting the discovery of this overdate to help boost the interest of the Jefferson Nickel. It certainly is one of the great key variety coins of the series and one I will hold out for in a nice EDS. Here's the new article: Article
