Coin collecting software?

I'm sure this has been asked before but I'm trying to figure out which program to ask for for Christmas.

I have a fairly substantial collection of perhaps 50,000 coins. I have been hand transferring it every few years to the most current Red Book to get an idea of it's worth as well as to take with me to coin shows.
This, of course, creates huge opportunity for human error each time I transfer the information.
I tried one brand of software a few years ago which I worked on for many hours before having it ultimately and repeatedly lock up on me.
I want one which:
Easy/quick to enter (perhaps mulitple) coins and rolls of coins.
Is Very stable and capable of handling a collection of my size.
Includes Canadian coin option
Automatic "purchasable" updates annually
Allows for purchace price of coins to be included in record.
Will spend up to $2-300+.
Easily customise reports
And did I mention easy/quick to enter?

It seems like most of the many I have found do most all these things except I am struggling to understand the differences.
Is there one which is known to be the best?
What do you all think?

Your program wouldn't be more than a weeks work for you at your leasure. Then you can share it with the rest of the CoinTalk forum!

OK, Ruben. You Are serious. But so am I... There would never have been a time when I would concieve writing software, let alone "no longer".
Don't mean to be rude to your apparently kind offer but...
1) I'd rather spend a liesure week entering my collection into an existing well tested program and...
2)Who you are currently bunking with is a little more information than needed by me.

Well,

It takes about 8 lines of code to connect input to a MYSQL Relational Database, which is the core of this kin of program.

Then you can build a web face for your collection if you ever decide to auction off some coins. If you can ride a Bike you can do this.

I have CoinsPlus Platinum, but I don't really like it. MrBrklyn, can you give us some more information about writing our own coin software.

Sure

Download MYSQL for starters http://www.mysql.com and you probably need Perl to make this quick and easy, www.perl.org

Then the first thing you need to do is make a list of tasks you want this program to do. That defines the problem. This needs to be exact so that you can write it to the specification.

There is one such program out there and many, many people use it. It is called Microsoft Excel. If you get used to it, all your problems will be solved. You can add, subtract, multiply, add lines, rows, columns, delete, save, etc.
No need to buy a program if you have Office. It is usually already there. I use it for coins, telephone numbers, Christmas Card lists, Bill payments and just about everything possible. If you have albums of coins then you make one format, copy it for all albums and presto, you've got a software item. I just finished updating my 10 sets of Merc Dime albums in Excel after the coin show last weekend.

 

And before excell there was another 50 spreadsheet programs better written.

I wouldn't give a thin dime for that virus trap.

Dang... That is the one I tried a few years ago which kept locking up on me. I have since wondered if it was my old computer's lack of capacity.

 

Actually this is a very intriguing idea as I am quite comfortable using Excel. The one thing I don't believe it can provide is annual (automatic) updates of values without hand entering. Otherwise I'd probably jump on this.

Took someones advice and have been trying some demos.
One looks pretty good. It seems to have what I'm looking for and I was wondering if anyone has tried it. Coin Manage 2005?

I use MsAccess to track my collection. It is always a work in progress. I have been toying with the idea of tightening it up adding a little polish and making it available.

 

David, Where did you find Coin Manage? I currenty just use Microsoft Word to keep track of my collection but I'm tired of its limitations and manual updating. It would be nice to have an actual program designed just for coins. I tried Coin Elite but also had some problems with it locking up but that was a few years back. Maybe they have a newer version that works better.
