I just ran across a gold commemorative coin it is 25 mm round. weight 9.49g obverse: Hans Chr. Andersen 1805-1875 w/ his protrait reverse: Kobenhavn den lille havfrue (little mermaid) statue picture small markings on statue are m over m in circle followed by A in circle .900 anyone know what this is? I cannot document it anywhere. Thanks
Sounds like a medal not a coin. It's likely Danish (Denmark). Any idea what the date of issue is? (Not Andersen's birth - death dates.) The Danmarks Nationalbank issued a series of gold and silver H C Andersen thematic commemorative coins
No other markings on the metal. Yes, I believe it is Danish. I wondered if anyone could ID the maker (mint). I want to assume that the .900 is the gold content, am i correct? I would assume the value is in the melt?
Most likely, yes, 90% (.900 fineness) gold is indicated by that. Can you upload some images of the piece? Pics really help with ID.
