I have a two pound English coin from 1997. It is supposed to say on the edge of the coin "Standing on the shoulders of Giants." On the coin I have the I in Giants is missing and it does not look worn down it just looks like it was never printed on it. I have no idea if it was a mint error. I was just curious. any info is helpful thanks!
i am not familiar with english coins, but i know some on here are. one suggestion i can give you, is to get a picture. without a picture it would be hard to give you a good answer. on your camera look for the flower icon, that is macro. use that and take the picture one or two feet away. use a tripod if you have one. thats all i got, best of luck and hope its worth some good money!
Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two_pounds_(British_coin)): The coin has the edge inscription STANDING ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS taken from a letter by Sir Isaac Newton to Robert Hooke, in which he describes how his work was built on the knowledge of those that had gone before him. "If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants."
