Yes, you read right, "Modern Gold Coin Celebrates Ancient Gold Coin." In Russia's recent past, their minting powers that be, decided to commemorate some of their past coins on silver and gold coins. A 1997 proof (Leningrad Mint) 3 Roubles Silver (1 oz. ASW) coin commemorates the 100th Anniversary of Minting in Russia, by featuring a coin design of Saint Vladimir. A 1988 Proof (Leningrad Mint) 3 Roubles Silver (1 oz. ASW) coin commemorates the 500th Anniversary of the first all-Russian coinage by featuring three coins minted in 1497. Also, in 1988, a gold 100 Rubles coin was minted to commemorate the 1000th Anniversary of Minting in Russia by featuring the obverse of Saint Vladimir's coin (Zlatnik) design on the 100 Roubles' reverse. I've chosen the 1988 gold 100 Rubles to be the theme of this post (Tax Free Gold photo): 1988 Proof Gold 100 Rubles (14,000 minted): scroll to second photo: http://www.taxfreegold.co.uk/ussr.html Photo of St. Vladimir's Zlatnik: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Zlatnik_HQ.jpg Thought you might like to know...
