yea, i wish you could get better pictures. they both look interesting and i really think i would like that roman coin.

something like that would be a perfect example for me, since i am not into ancient coins as much. but having something like that would be nice, with the holder and info..

    nice stuff.

On your camera, try finding a button with a flower on it or under settings, under your focus, set it to Macro.

When it comes to lighting on the coin there are many different ways you can do it. Put the coin under 1-2 lamps or put it by a window seal or outdoors to capture a natural look.

Make sure you mess with the white balance, put a white sheep of paper behind both, and toggle with it until that white sheet of paper shows up as the true white it is in your monitor.

Hope that helps. Also, posting in the WORLD AND ANCIENT coin section should help as well.

Somalia has been known to make some strange coins. Here are a couple from their "Dollar Guitar" series.

Somalia did not make those coins, cpm9ball. I doubt they were even made in africa. Somalia has been a failed state for many years now (meaning no stable government, just warlords). Such a state hardly has the resources to mint fancy commemorative coins, much less control looting and massacres. I think it is likely the reason there are so many different commem. coins from "Somalia" is that a company uses them on coins because the government cannot tell them not to. It's kind of like minting Atlantis coins.

I don't believe Somalia has their own mint facility anyway. They use private mints just like so many other small countries without a pot to "PEEK" in.

You can get the raw coins at the link below. According to the ad, these coins were authorized by the Somali Democratic Republic in 2004. I doubt that NGC would certify them if they weren't legal tender.

    http://store2.gatewestcoin.com/cgi/viewSubCategory.cgi?type=store&category=World Coins (Modern - 1500 AD to Date)&sub=Somaliland&location=usa&site=1&session-ID=12A79g39P18555V&t=490029

NOTE: I just checked the link, and it posted an error message. But, if you wait a few seconds, the site will open. Open the Online Store to "World Coins - Modern" and then select Somalia.

    Wierd!

The "FUN" slab was a gift from NGC for the attendees at their annual luncheon at FUN. (They give us a small gift every year.) I bought the other one already slabbed before I even got the one from NGC. Had I known!!!!!

I gave up on that when I learned that 7-11 won't accept them as payment for a cup of coffee.

Shoot, I've already mapped out my schedule for the next 30 years. I want to be prepared in case I live that long.
