"The Expert's Guide to Collecting & Investing in Rare Coins"

Went to see "Chronicles of Narnia" on Friday night and decided to stop in Barnes and Noble to see there was any New Coin Books.
Sure enough there was! I bought this for the heck if it, it's always Great to learn NEW and Exciting Things! I have already read quite abit and have learned some good stuff.
Was wondering if anyone else had read or is reading it and what their thoughts where.

    The Dean of American Numismatics

You will not find any bad advice or incorrect information in any book by Q. David Bowers. QDB is rightly called "The Dean of American Numismatics." He has authored or co-authored over 100 books, several of them, such as The Garrett Collection, standard references.

Dave was president of the ANA in 1984/1985 and the ANS has announced that it is hosting a David Bowers Appreciation Night.

It was a bit of an upset for him to have been associated with Collector's Universe, after 25 or 30 years in the business. If you know Photograde, then you know James Ruddy. The firm of Bowers & Ruddy was in Los Angeles. Dave moved the firm back to his homeland, New Hampshire, and they split up as friends, which they remain today. Bowers teamed up with Ray Merena and Bowers and Merena enjoyed 15 or 20 years of steady growth, supporting the hobby that supported them. Like Bowers & Ruddy, Bowers & Merena sold many fine collections through their auctions.

Bowers and Merena also established an award-winning array of publications. Dave is a publisher -- as well as a collector -- and a writer. Their books and their magazines brought knowledge to thousands of collectors. I was honored to have been published by Dave's magazine.

As the stock market heated up in the late 1990s, Collector's Universe was formed. In 1999, they bought Bowers and Merena. Dave took a lot of CU stock and then took a loss on it when the markets collapsed almost immediately after the deal was done. Then, about two years ago, Dave came to work to find himself locked out of his offce. He had been fired.

CU sold the name "Bowers and Merena" to Escala, a Spanish auction firm with a presence in American collectibles, includiing sports cards. They are located in Irvine, Califiornia. This is not Dave's firm. QDB does business under the name AMERICAN NUMISMATIC RARITIES, still in Wolfboro, New Hampshire.

    LOL Speedy!

Yep, Joe & I are both in there. Working on this project with Dave was an amazing experience to say the least. He is one of the most intelligent and fascinating people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and calling friend. This 'Dean of Numismatics' is, in my opinion, the greatest asset our hobby has.

I received my invitation to the ANS function honoring Dave at the Waldorf Astoria as well...sure wish I could go, this man deserves any and every honor bestowed upon him. We are very fortunate to have his boundless knowledge furthering our hobby.

I have Emailed Mr Bowers a few times and he has always emailed back...
Maybe someday I'll get to meet him and let him know how much he has helped me.
I don't know if you read the CW article he wrote about YN going on later in life to work with coins more...that was a great article.
