Agree completely, Dave. I'm seeing this a lot with current African issues, but perhaps it's more global than that. Unfortunately the notes look good from a distance, and the more you scrutinize them, the less you see... unlike most older notes. Here's a couple more: Central African States: West African States: Dave
Just picked this up today. Wish I could post the reverse, but it won't let me upload it for some reason.
DaveM.. What a beautiful notes those are. Love the colors and the 5000 denom. Thanks for sharing these. Coleguy.. Congrats on the Blue Seal pick up! Nice $10 Phillie...now you need the rest of the set.. RickieB
Wow. These are cool. Can anybody point me in the direction of being able to buy some of these? Are the notes a reasonable price? The World notes are sweet.
I'm not sure where Dave L gets his material, but I get most current/common Africa notes off eBay. Find a dealer that seems to carry a lot, and order it all from one to save shipping. Most of them are cheap in the lower denominations, more expensive as you go up (these are circulating notes, so they're priced at face value + $X). Dave
Dave M has it right on the nose. You can find some really good deals on Ebay, especially in current world note issues. Be sure to check the feedback, shipping and compare costs. I always compare costs. Sometimes people will have free shipping on all items, others will not. As for the other stuff - rarer world issues, higher priced notes, etc. ... I use both Ebay and online dealers, some with an Ebay presence, some without. TOo many to list here, but google search and build up a nice set to compare and you'll do just fine.
Nice notes Coleguy and Conner1 ! That's as close as I'd ever get to that note as well! But I find it strange to be in a PMG holder... is it graded or just in a holder?
I really don't know what kind of deal was made by PMG and the BEP,it's not graded . PMG is just certifying that the BEP printed it (back only) from original dies.
The last time I checked $5000 notes were selling in the $110 to 125K range $10,000 notes from $110K to $130K depending on grade. The $5000 note is actually more illusive than the $10,000 note in most regards. Good luck.. RickieB
If you want to start Large Size FRN's be prepaired to spend some money ,I stopped my NY (B) at the $100 note.RickieB has one of the best highest grade NY set I know of on this forum ,my partial set is low grades.
I'd be a low-grade guy, as well. I have some foreign country notes just from vacations, but not many.
That's how we all started out ,everyone here has a budget ,Post them they will be welcomed to see ,you don't have to have gems to have beautiful notes and never be embarrassed to show a worn note ,every note has it own history and it's nice to see them.
Thanks for the encouragement. I'm not very computer savvy, so uploading pictures may be few and far between. LOL. I'll see what I can do. I have some Brazillian notes, Hong Kong notes, and some U.S. Two-Dollar Bills. That's the extent of my collection, but it's still a cool hobby. I'm in hoarding mode, so I can have some cool items to pass along to my kids, when I kick the bucket(which hopefully, isn't any time soon). I stumbled on this section of the forum and really liked some of the notes I saw. I never even considered looking at serial numbers on notes, so I'm glad I stopped in..
BigChiefFan, Part of the beauty of banknote collecting is that there are so many facets to it. There are world notes that are gorgeous that can be purchased for a couple of dollars. Look at some of the "obsolete" U.S. notes- a few more dollars but quite affordable. Just like in coins where you can coin-roll-hunt, you can do the same with a stack of brand new notes from the bank- look for errors, special/fancy serial numbers, birthday serial numbers, districts, or whatever you like. (also check your change... most of my best notes came from change from the grocery store). Most of all..... have fun with it!
I've enjoyed learning more about it and actually looked to see what we have. I was surprised that we had a few more notes than I had remembered. It was fun re-discovery some of these little pieces of history and art. I like the hobby. It's fascinating. I also checked out E-Bay last night and did some browsing. I easily see the appeal. The discussions on this website are also enjoyable. I appreciate all the advice.
Went to subway today for lunch. When I went to pay the only thing in the tip jar was this note. The owner happened to be running the register so I asked if it was a joke. He said some guy left it as a joke and it has no value. I asked if he would mind if I swapped it for a US $1 and he said yes. Everyone was happy!
