I mean modern ECU-predecessor-of-Euro. There are a lot of them out there, many quite attractive, and only a few are in World Coins. Has anyone seen a comprehensive reference work for these pieces?
Since most of them were never legal tender, you won't find many in coin catalogs. Two exceptions I know about are the Belgian ECU coins and the "dual denomination" French pieces. Here is a book that focuses on the German issues. Those were not legal tender but local issues, accepted by some stores for a few days - but you could turn them in again, so they were a little different from mere medals. http://www.gietl-verlag.de/katalog-...r/buchdetail/153/1/themen/neuerscheinung.html In the 1990 Gerhard Schön (who also "does" euro and world coin catalogs) published one that apparently lists pieces from other countries too. A bit expensive though; have not seen that catalog myself. http://www.amazon.de/ECU-Katalog-Münzen-Medaillen-Gerhard-Schön/dp/3894411635/ Christian
