I am still looking for an affordable 28-P Peace dollar. I'd like an opinion on whether this coin is real. http://cgi.ebay.com/CHOICE-NICE-KEY...em&pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item255b8e053c If you look at the listings for copies, they look so good I can't tell the difference.
Based on those pictures there's no way to tell. But I would never suggest anyone purchase that particular coin raw.
The greysheet bid in VG is $345 and ask is $365. Without major damage, they don't get much cheaper than that. If you buy a damaged 1928, be sure it is slabbed by a reputable service to assure yourself of authenticity. Buyer beware on 1928 Peace dollars! ACE Mike
Another note on 1928 Peace dollars - they are heavily faked, so while there are many reputable, honest sellers overseas, I would stick with a seller from the USA on this one. Protect your hard earned $$. ACE Mike
I agree with ACE Mike. The pictures aren't detailed enough to tell whether it's a fake or not, which, given the fact it's not a certified coin, makes me suspect that may be intentional. I'd say keep saving until you can afford a certified coin.
I checked all the feedback on this seller. He seems to only sell coins and of the hundreds of transactions, only one buyer gave a negative feedback. And that was what they described as excessive shipping charges. LOL Sorry, but those are either calculated or posted, so there should be no surprise there. This seller also accepts a return of the item. Everyone I read said they were happy with the coins or they were accurately described. Man, if you think the price is right, I believe this seller is as honest as you are likely to find. I mean not even a neutral feedback. Personally, I would take this risk. IMHO
I agree it looks real, and the seller looks legit. However, it is not likely to sell in the $200 area. In that condition, it is more likely to go into the $400 neighborhood. ACE Mike
The obverse looks so much different than the reverse for some reason. I agree to only buy this key coin slabbed. TC
1928 P is a funny mintage, as the price disparity between XF and AU/BU is nominal. If you are going to buy this issue, you might as well go for AU-58.
I have a 1928 Peace dollar. It looks real to me and the seller seems legit. I wouldn't go past $300 on this one.
I got the coin. When it arrives I'll post pictures. This is just what I wanted, I think, can't wait to see it in person. I will have the set completed. Passing it on to my daughter someday. Paid 315 with shipping.
When you get it, check the area where a mintmark would normally be on a peace. Last year a friend showed me one that was great until you looked carefully where a "S" was removed and surface was smoothed and dinged with the edge of another dollar to disguise the alteration. Jim
Here it is. I don't see anything that make me think it's counterfeit or altered. It has a little luster, I'm happy.
