    Nice designs, and some were even carried on after Cyprus became an independent republic. Denominations such as 45 piastres look kind of strange, but it made sense in the British predecimal system: They had 9 piastres (1 shilling), 18 piastres (2s), and those 45 piastres (5s, 1 crown, half pound) coins ...
