I don,t recarve many coins anymore, but decided to recarve this 1938 jefferson nickel. I gave him the name ''Snuffy ''
I bet in 50 years original 'Billzachs' are going to be auctioned at Heritage for astronomical prices...
I'm impressed. Great work. I 'm think'in your skills need to be passed on to another. Thanks for sharing.
Few Historians are familiar with Snuffy Jefferson, Thomas Jeffersons nom de plume when he went on the road to escape from the cares of office. Even in those escapist times Jeffersons inventive genius was at work, it is assumed he started the hobo codes which were signs for other kings of the road to avoid work, mean dogs and where to get some good hot grub. The coin Bill shows was a pattern coin that was intended to legitimize the hobo lifestyle, which was still pretty strong in 1938, transcripts of the meetings show that the kibosh was put on the coin by President Roosevelt, who remarked, "we can't have a bum on our nations coinage". All the pieces were to be destroyed it is rumored that the coin shown was the only survivor, it is believed to have been owned by FDR, who as many know was interested in numisamtics himself. I am a terrible liar, sorry. Another creative piece from BZ
I never had the pleasure of viewing your past work, but judging by 'Snuffy', I missed out on alot of great work. That is an excellent job!
You need to go back and look at some of his previous threads. You are correct. You are missing some great works!
