I recently got a few thousand foreign coins, and I have been looking through a few, and these ones seemed neat, so I was wondering if anyone could identify these. I should get Krause soon.

Well the one with the hole is a Spanish 1 Reale from Mexico City, 1783. The assayer was FF.

If you can tell me how big the first coin is, I can identify it and the coin next to it.

The first coin is about 26 mm or about 1 inch.

The one coin remaining to be identified is a 2 reales, likely struck in Mexico in the date range of 1801-08. Sorry, it's so worn that's about I can say for sure.

The German States coin is a 1/6 Thaler from one of the Hessian states - either Hesse-Cassel or Hesse-Darmstadt.Does anyone know what a Kurfurst was? I know that Furst is the title of a ruling or mediatised Prince, whereas,Prinz is the title of a non-sovereign Prince of the Royal Family.

An elector of the Holy Roman Empire and they are definitely sovereign, even though the title may have become meaningless by 1842. This is certainly a coin from the tail end of the state before Hesse was annexed by Prussia in 1866. The Holy Roman Empire dissolved in 1806.

    From the coin:
KURFURSTENTHUM HESSEN - Electorate of Hesse
Elector Wilhelm II with (his son) regent Frederick Wilhelm.

    Correction: It's Heisei 3 or 1991. You missed a stroke there... ;)

    Hello,

The top left one, if 27 mm diameter, is a 2 francs, chambre de commerce, a kind of token which was legal tender in France from 1920 to 1927, due to the lack of change in those times
    It is common : 1 euro (1.2 $) in XF40

Cucombor, those Chamber of Commerce coins are very interesting. The rarest date is 1926 in either the 1 Franc or the 2 Francs.I am not sure which.Do you know which ones are the scarce date(s) in the 50 Centimes?

    Aidan.

    Aidan,
For the 50 cts, 1929 is the scarcest, but still not very expensive (70 euro for a AU 55), as they are not as much collectors in France than in the USA. There are also essais in 1920 and 1921, quite rare, and a rare 1920 "pre serie" available for 550 euros in AU 55
For 1 franc, 1920 and 1926 are scarce, the last one a bit more.
For 2 francs, 1926 is scarce, but 1927 is quite rare, and also 1920 is expensive (not rare according to the records, but an AU 55 example of 1920 would be 150 euros, where a 1926 will be 80 euros and a 1927, 700 euros !!)
1 euro is about 1.2 USD these days

Much as I appreciate large-size images, those were too large! I couldn't see an entire coin on my screen at one time, and having them not be upright didn't help, either. Could you please have mercy on us next time? :(
