Morgans are probably my least favorite series, but I can still appreciate a nice one. Thanks for sharing yours...>Mike
I started by wanting one from each mint P-CC-D-O-S then I added O/CC, O/S, O/O, S/S. PS- I don't like toning but that one caught my eye :headbang:
I like it. The toning is not too distracting. For an "O" Mint coin the strike looks on the "better" side of average. I see a number of bag marks but nothing horrendous. Can't figure out what's happening between stars 8 and 9. Toning or ...?
Stars 8 & 9? Kanga, it's no big deal, but the stars are counted 1-6 counterclockwise from the right of the date and 1-7 clockwise from the left of the date. Which ones do you mean? Chris
I like it, too! If you're not a big fan of Morgans, then you could always send them to me. I'll even pay the shipping! Chris
Interesting. The books I deal with (half cents & half dimes) start the count at the left of the date and go clockwise all the way around to 13. So I made the assumption that Morgans were done the same way. In this particular case by your notation I mean stars 5 & 6 on the right.
Not a Morgan collector and someone said it's a good strike for a New Orleans, but, noticed the flat hair over the ear. Now, that was once an automatic AU, unless the flat area showed unbroken luster, which would indicate an MS with a weak strike.
I have been laying low because I had no idea that such a high level of numismatic skill was present here on coin talk. It has caused me to reevaluate what I was doing as a collector. I can see Im am hanging with the best of the best, so I have been practicing my photo skills Etc. Plus learning from all of you. Once I get the picture thing down I will be more active. I have a lot of bust halves I would like an opinion on. Steve
Best way to learn and get better is to participate.......glad your not giving up!!! Also just a tip from me, I can do light at 2 olock and 10 oclock diffused lighting etc etc and my pics never came out! Try putting it on the window ledge on a bright day, that is the only light source I will ever use!!!!
