Any Escudo boffins on CT

    Just wondered if there were members who were particularly well informed on all matters escudo?

    Ordered my first two this week from your side of the pond......mid ninteenth cent AU++

    Would be interested in hearing from members who might give be a nod on any potential pitfalls in this area of collecting.

    As long as you buy from reputable dealers you should do OK. The two you're looking at now appear to be correctly graded and the price is OK. The rims are a little bumpy in spots but that is to be expected with AU.

    Ok, thanks......I was told that the legend on the rims can do that.........the market over here (UK) is really hot so prices seem a bit daft.

    Hi -- would you mean Spanish Colonial / Spanish Escudos? Forgive me, but I'm confused on the 'cent' denomination? :)

    AFAIK - Spanish Colonials Escudos were gold denominated 1, 2, 4, 8 -- where 1 escudo was earlier pegged at about 8 reales until the silver-gold valuation got upset around mid 19th century. Spain also issued silver escudo (1 & 2) between 1864-68 [Spain's Second Decimal Coinage] :)
