Here is an Indian Cent that I own. I got it as a little 'thrown in' from an auction I won a while back, and always did look at it, and wonder what kind of road it had been on ever since the day it was minted.

The obverse and reverse together look nearly like different coins. It has obviously been cleaned, and I think whoever tampered with it did one heck of a job of messing it up. I honestly cannot put my finger on exactly what happened to this thing or what exactly you would call it, other than messed up.

What do you guys think happened to this thing?

    obverse harshly polished.

Reverse was once attached to (perhaps) a key ring.

It looks like the guy forgot to clean the other side :D

Maybe someone spilled some sort of coloring agent on one side with a cap on it (thus the circle of original brown color)

Either way, it's one heck of an ugly coin :goofer:

    It was in jewelery.

    I haven't seen many ex-jewelry coins, so I wouldn't have known :)
Thanks guys. That does make sense, I was wondering what could've made it so that there would be two tones of the reverse, jewelry solves the mystery.
I bet it made whatever it was in, uglier. lol

Still a somewhat, interesting piece though.

I say it was in a Whitman (or similar) folder and someone got the bright idea to use polish on them WHILE they were in the folder. I've seen this in person before....stupidity happens.
