Okay I have read that the 1944 Lincoln that was found (zinc-plated steel) has magnetic properties, also weighting 2.8 grams but have read other contradicting information, anyhow I ask because I found this cent which appears to almost be the same color as that 44 however under a magnifying scope I can see another coin printed on planchet, please give me your thoughts
okay #1: It is minted, not printed. #2: I can't see anything underneath. #3: Is it magnetic? If not, just an ordinary Lincoln cent.
OK, they do exist (but they only weighed 2.7 grams). In fact, the single most costly Lincoln cent ever sold was a 1944-S. It went for $37?,XXX and is the only know example from SF. On the other hand, yours looks like it is corroded. However, without accurate scales and a magnetic test, we can tell little. If you don't have accurate scales, try your local jewelry store or gold buyer.
not corroded, it has varnish remaining on it and I am scared to take it off the other coin underneath had like leafs of blossoms if some sore more visible on reverse ( i have a 45X scope) weight is 2.9 and not magnetic
Zinc plated steel is magnetic and does weigh less than 2.9 gms. Therefore, yours is not zinc plated steel. Also, yours is corroded.
