Hello everyone! I'm thinking of leaving coins. My dad just bought me my first car, a 1973 mustang. It needs a little bit of work but it runs . I want it to look show room quality. I have about $1000 worth of coins( not alot i know) but i could do alot of stuff to my new stang. I really need some advice. I love coins but i want an amazing car. i will post some pictures of my car if yall want me too.

    Thanks, Zach

I wouldn't get out completely, save a little bit, sell what you don't want. I know getting a car must be exciting, and nothing is like your first car, but is it worth selling all of your collection for?
Post pics if you'd like, I think the fact that you got a 73' Stang that runs should be amazing enough! ;)

  4. If it's a V8, then quit coins and focus on the car. Just kidding...do what makes you happy. Perhaps just take a break from coins for now and see how it goes. Enjoy the ride. TC

    Zach,

Just a thought. I could have used the money from my coins when I was a younger man. There were always bills to pay. I am more of a hoarder at heart, though, and I just worked another job to be able to keep the coins and still pay my bills. Now all of those coins I had bought, (XF bust halves for $40, AU SL halves for $50), have all appreciated and I get a chance to enjoy them periodically.

Coins are an asset, cars will be expenses. You are better off in life to keep all of the appreciating assets you can, and if you need more money for things that will go down in value, pay for those things as you can. You say your coins are "only" $1000, but chances are in 30 years they will be more like $4,000. Keep them for a real emergency in life, not for a car.

You are a young man, and I knwo a car is important to you. If you needed the car for your job, that is different. Just to be cool? Keep the coins.

No need to get out just because of a car, no matter how classic. Besides, that car may not be around as long as your coins could be in your life. Maybe, sell a few coins that you are willing to part with now and save your top picks for later on when your focus may return again to coins.

:) Man sweet car. I go for more for imports, but that is a really cool car for a young guy to have!

Keep the coins, sell them when you break the car. ;)

I love it! it has 72,048 k miles rebuilt 351 big block. however, it has a broken grill and dent in the hood (they hit a cop car) dual flomaster. ( sorry everyone, this really isnt about coins)

I wouldn't sell all the coins. The car looks to be in pretty good shape. Maybe it doesn't need much. Do you know if it's a Windsor motor or a Cleveland? By 1973 the smog reducing devices really pulled a lot of power out of the engines. I don't know if they even made Clevelands in 1973. But if it's a Windsor engine there is not much you can do to make it faster without spending a fortune.
Cars come and they go. Up here in New England they rot out before their time.
The bottom line is do what you want, they are your coins.

The 351 is a small block.

I go on buying sprees, then sell them all, only to start buying later. Sell the coins. You'll start collecting again later.

But is that a wise financial decision? Do you only buy back what you had before for less and never more than you paid the first time you owned them or do you simply never return to the same series? Seems that you'd eventually run out of coins that would interest you.

Nice car! But, no need for a pic of you at the gas pump, you'll be there often and remember it well. Sell the coins, you're going to need the cash for gas.

Do not sell the coins but save some cash for the car-related expenses.

    hamman88 Spare some change, sir?

If the dent is from a cop car, I say keep the dent. Its a good story, tell the girls you did it.

I wouldn't sell the coins. I wouldn't even think about them. Put them away and take them out in about 20 years, you'll thank yourself.

Do not sell the coins. Coin collecting is the best hobby to have!! The car will probably get a lot of attention from chics.

It is all what you want to do. You will have plenty of time to buy more coins. I know what it is like to own classic cars and they can be very costly when you are restoring them.
Nice car BTW. What did you pay if you dont mind me asking
