I admit I am not a collector of errors but search for them sometimes. I got this penny in change recently and from the moment I touched it that it felt off.

The punching of the coin seems fairly deep compared to normal pennys. Is it worth keeping or just dump it in circulation? The pics dont do it justice but its all I could do.

Please note the reverse feels/looks the same as a normal memorial penny.

    Thanks for any help.

That is what the old cents used to look like. I personally think they are much better looking than the modern cents. As for the value of yours, it is copper. So it is now now worth about 2¢. You might even get a little extra because it is an "S".

I figured it wasnt a big deal. Just felt weird compared to other cents and thats even wheat backs.

i come across those as well and I always stop and stare at them especially if it's a nice solid strike. Every so often I get Canadian ones from the forties like that too.

It is a cent, not a penny.

I've got a tuppaware thing I toss all my "S" mints in. I get those deep strikes every so often and toss them in there.
