TRIVIA: A Downunder 30th Anniversary of Decimal-Coins Commemorative

    Australian 30th Anniversary Decimal-Coinage Commemorative Coin

    In 1996 collectors of Australian proof silver (0.9990 oz. ASW) Dollar commemorative coins received a treat. A Dollar was struck to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of Australia's decimal coins. The coin, itself, features seven coins on its reverse. An image of the reverse of Australia's One Penny coin bearing a hopping kangaroo facing right was placed in the middle of the map of Australia. The other six coins which are decimal coins are placed in denominational order progressing clockwise beginning to the right of the map. Decimal coins were first minted in 1966
