im a pizza delivery driver and i had a free order to deliver to someone well not free, he had to pay the two dollar delivery charge. after not answering the door until i called him on my cell he comes to the door and says, hey sorry about that i must have just missed you i was in my car looking for 17 cents. i preceded to give him his pizza and he busts out a little plastic case marked 1960 filled with 50 pennies and says well those are collectible but thats all i got. haha. and gave me some more change to make it up to where he was 17 cents short and says well you want some cigarettes or something? Anyways did a little bit of research and haven't really found out if they are worth anything (and i really dont know a damn thing about coin collecting) at least no value as of right now but I can tell you I got 16 small date d 15 large date 12 large date d 6 in which im unsure of possible small date, but most likely large date 1 1969 d lol so maybe i can at least make up for the 17 cents he owed me haha? or do I possible have something of value here or good chance of being worth something in the future?
that is sort of funny, I am going thru some penny rolls, (almost as much fun as going thru jelly rolls) and so far I have gotten 6 bu 1960 cents. So I will watch this thread to see what others have to say.
Each of them might retail for a dollar or so, providing they are in at least AU condition. You'd get far less selling them to a dealer.
like i said i dont know really anything about coin collecting but they arent in too bad of shape but theyre definately not shining like a brand new penny, but everything is distinct and readable on them with a decent color if wanted to sell them where would i go? ebay?ha
Probably eBay. Dealers will not buy them from you as there is no demand for circulated (used) Lincoln cents from 1960. Even in brand new condition they only retail for 10 to 15 cents each, other than the 1960-P small date which is around $4. ACE Mike
The only ones in the group that would have a premium worth your time would be if any of the 6 were 1960 P small date, or one of the 1960-D was a premium Repunched Mintmark. Last year I purchased 10 Bank Wrapped rolls of 1960-D small date Uncirculated for $3.25 a roll. And looking at ebay now for 1960-D uncircul. rolls, I see they are about the same. I would guess that your batch would bring close to face by the time you pay ebay/paypal fees. Welcome to the forum!! and sorry I can't say they are worth more IMO. Jim
ok for the p small date. would a p be in place where the d is? and whats a premium repunched mintmark?
No. P is the abbreviation for Philadelphia mint. On these coins, there is no mint mark below the date.
If there is no mint mark below the date, it is a Philadelphia coin. This is true of any date of Lincoln cents. You can look at a bunch of cents from pocket change and see this.
ok thank you well the other 6 could be but i really have no way of tellin which im thinking its not worth the time anways
Try "coppercoins.com" Search under die varieties for 1960 and for mint click Philadelphia. There are some real good pics there.
