Evening all just joined the site as i'm looking for some information on a commemorative coin that i've got.Now there's no date on it but looks quite old, written on the coin is the following "king george v and queen mary commerating the royal visit'. Now thats all that written on the coin,i've googled it but can't seem to find any info on it,so if anyone can help me out it would be great thanks in advance
sorry will dig the camera out and try and get a decent picture, forgot to say i'm in the uk so guess it's a uk coin
Based on the legend it's almost certainly from a member of the Commonwealth other than the mother country, since the Royal Family resides there and doesn't make visits. Canada, Australia or New Zealand come to mind as the most likely sources of such a commemorative medal. Lack of a country name and denomination makes it unlikely to be a coin. The issue date has to be between 1910-36.
If it looks like this, then it may be a medal commemorating the Canadian royal visit of 1939. There are many medals of brass, copper, silver, etc. You can find several on the Internet if you search "george and mary visit"
This medal is from a later Royal Visit by King George VI and Elizabeth in 1939: Canada Royal Visit medal 1939 (Bronze 30mm)
sorry for the late reply, been trying to get a decent photo of the coin, this is the best i can do at the moment Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Hello Toffee, welcome. That's a very cool coin/medal you have there. One note on your pics, does your camera have an up-close "macro" setting? I've got a fairly old digital that has that setting, and it allows really close shots, even with an old camera. It would be worth checking, especially if you plan on uploading here.
Hi welcome to CoinTalk, it is a Medal :smile quite a nice one as well if like me you collect them LOL Unfortunatly I cant tell you which country it was issued for. Such commemrative medals were not only issued for Royal visits to other countries but also by City's and Towns here in the UK
Thank you for making this a successful day - one on which I learned something new. Everyone please disregard my prior post opining that it could not be from the UK.
