HI everyone, I have a 1981 penny that has two raised lines I would like to know about. One is on the 'R' and the other on the 'T' in LIBERTY. These lines are just as high off the letters as the letters are off the penny. Any and all thoughts are always appreciated.[/URL]%20[/IMG]
Since the part of the die that made the R and the T is inclused ( inward), if there is deteriorated ( breakage) around the edge, it would give the appearance you see with the T. The appearance of the R is a little more difficult if the top of the extra piece makes that part of the R twice as high as the rest of the R. At first I thought that part of the R may have broken off of a previous cent, lodged in the die , and then with pressure added to the regular R, but then it should only have been as high as the rest of the R rather than raised, due to the pressure on the die. Both extra pieces are raised, its just the one on the 'T' is worn considerably more but at an angle I can see it was raised as much as the other as part of it is still intact. When I zoom in I can see they are pretty straight lines which do not correspond to any die chips I have ever seen, eh ,but I dont know sh-t., thats why I ask. I guess I will write it down as a possible die chip as I dont know what else it could be...Thanks for your thoughts%20[/IMG]
