What causes the little line along the lettering? With a magnifying glass I can see it better, but you can see it in this photo starting between the B and the U in PLURIBUS and going through UNUM. Also, does it help or hurt the value? Thanks.
It's a nice die crack :thumb: but it's pretty common on Morgans... Unless it is a rare Vam, it doesn't have much extra value... Look up some of the die cracks on the 1921-p Morgan.. There is some absolutely huge die cracks on those that go almost completely around the whole obverse or reverse... I picked one up In about MS-63/64 for $16 last week...
They are caused by imperfections in the die attach material, such as voids and incomplete fillet formation. Excessive voids in the die attach material act as stress concentrators that can exert large flexural stresses on the die when the device is subjected to thermo-mechanical stresses, resulting in cracks at the backside of the die.
Thanks. :thumb: This is on a PCGS MS65 graded 1884-CC. I noticed it when looking at it through a loop.
