It looks like a gaming token. The size of this one on ebay is 25mm. What is the diameter of yours? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/george-iii-GUINEA-TOKEN-game-chip-1790-rare-john-goode-/160364129542 Or a guinea: http://www.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=...zilla:en-US:official&gbv=2&ndsp=20&tbs=isch:1
Looks like a George the III half crown to me. http://www.ukcoinpics.co.uk/halfc.html#g3 Maybe it is a florin or a shilling, though. I'm not the best at determining coin type, but that is definitely George!
Looks to me like it's one of these 2, according to my Krause, neither listed mintage Half Guinea 1790 KM# 608 4.175g, 0.917 Gold, 0.1231 AGW F-$150.00 VF-$175.00 EF-$475.00 Unc-$600.00 Or Guinea 1790 KM# 609 8.35g, 0.917 Gold, 0.2462 AGW F-$175.00 VF-$250.00 EF-$450.00 Unc-$850.00
Both of those pictured in the link have the date on the obverse, the one pictured here has it on the reverse
That's not my coin. I just found that picture while looking for mine. I'll try to get a picture of mine as it's real close to the one pictured. I looked through a few world coin books and could not find it. Thanks for the help.
Yeah, pretty much. They were known as jetons. Had been around for centuries and just about every country & ruler had them.
token Yep thats definately a gaming token, they were usually made later than the dates on the coins. I have a few in my collection but unfortunately they are virtually worthless in terms of selling them.
