Does anyone know if an album for 1/10th oz AGE's exists? I always loved the design of this coin - and thought it would be interesting to have a complete series. I think if I did that with the small 1/10 oz coins, that might be doable for $3600 or so? Although I have to admit the coins are so small i might need a magnifying glass to see the dates! Is this a dumb idea. I dont think ANYBODY collects these by date (do they?) And one pays the biggest premium over bullion for the 1/10 th oz. Actual Size ... Enlarged ...
I for one do not think this is a bad idea at all. At one time I almost had the entire set of Unc and Proof AGE's in all 4 Denoms... for the 10th oz you will also need the 1999 struck with unfinished proof die error coin...these and the 1988 get a little pricey... It was fun to do and I encourage it. RB
I do not think that there is an album for 1/10th oz gold eagles. If there was a 1/10th oz gold eagle album, then I am sure that Dansco would have it.
i not sure but i think it would be better to buy just slabbed AGE coins. Cause slabs protect your coins more than albums.
I've thought of collecting those also, But I'm trying to finish up my Commemorative Collection. I'd say go for it. Everyone likes collecting different coins.
While I typically dislike the 1/10th sized gold coins due to their size, dealer premiums and the eye-strain they cause to appreciate them, your album is a very nice idea. Something sturdy like a Dansco style album would be wonderful to have them in, though I'm personally not much a fan of the tan and brown materials they use. The protective lens in the Dansco albums are another benefit to this style of album. It would be nice to see a small Fresnel magnifier lens included with the album, maybe in an inner pocket, to help viewing the coins once in their slots. Also, PCGS just published an article on the 1999-W $5 and $10 Unfinished Proof Die Gold Eagles -- from PCGS.com [6.21.2010], that RickieB mentioned.
Hey thanks for all the feedback and ideas! Yes, i am surprised nobody offers an album ... they are just bullion coins so i dont plan on buying slabbed versions (seems like a waste) i just thought it would be cool to open up a book and see a complete set (24 years) of "St. Gaudens" Eagles even if they are small! you know what ... the US Mint should offer this product (an album) it might increase their sales
Maybe you should try to get the rights to the album idea before the Mint can enforce the idea as their own in a similar manner with telling NGC how to place a trademark symbol (™) on their slab labels for America the Beautiful™ coins... Coin World had a lead article on June 14th about this, as did CoinUpdate.com on June 1st.
Dansco can make custom holed pages/albums for you. I believe all you have to do is give them a call. 323-734-6373 1/10 AGE are 16.5mm in diameter I believe.
Yes, this is the way to do it. I made myself a $10 Indian gold album this way. Dansco doesn't make gold albums per se because it would be a tough sell. Not to many people are that STUPID to put all their gold in an album. Albums are hard to hide and don't fit in most safety deposit boxes. Once the burgular finds the album (please don't be dumb enough to actually put it on a book shelf), they are instantly rich!
are you really calling yourself stupid ??? tell me it isnt so! well maybe you're right ... it's probably a bad idea ... it was a cool thought while I was mulling it around though.
umm....the Dansco 7070 type set gold page would be more valuable on it's own than a set of 1/10 ounce AGEs, so I don't agree with your logic here. Personally I think putting AGEs in an album would be a great way to display them! Good idea OP:thumb:
Your logic is flawed so I can see where you would not agree. No where in my post did I mention "value." Value is irrelevant. Ofcourse the 7070 gold page is more valuable than an album of gold the size of a dime. That is not at issue. What I said was by putting your gold in an album, it not only puts all of your eggs (gold) in one basket but it's hard to hide, compared to gold in airtites or 2x2's. Obviously, the presentation would be cool but each collector must weigh presentation with his own level of comfort regarding home security. A 7070 by design should be a collectors most valuable (expensive) album if collected in decent grades with or without the gold page. Mine is worth several thousand dollars so obviously it's not in the livingroom on the bookshelf by the fireplace...lol.
