Hi, I was just wondering what a $1, $5, and $20 dollar confederate currency bill would be worth. I dont know, but im looking to buy from my local coinc shop and i was wondering what it would cost. Sorry if this is a dumb question, im a novice collector. :hatch:
Hi, Welcome to the Forum! Not a dumb question at all. First, you will find many on the forum tend to specialize in metallic money and others in paper money. Also confederate money has been reproduced so much, it is difficult for a novice in that area ( and I include myself) has to be sure it is real and not a re-print. Often coin dealers are not sure either. Lastly, there are fewer grading and value guides for the confederate bills. SO I can't help you, but I can welcome you and remove the concept that it is a dumb question. An expert will be by eventually and tell you photos are necessary, etc. Jim
Hello Hunt1, Sorry for the slow reply, but did you buy the notes yet? I am no expert with the Confederate currency, but I do have a couple of books on the topic. Pics would be most helpful if you now have the notes, or at least some info on the city/bank/serial number would be needed to be able to answer your question. Welcome to the forum, from the number of posts, it looks like you are enjoying it.
No, im tending to stay away from them, because i read that they (and anything confederate) is heavily counterfit.
If you are interested in Confederate currency, my local coin shop, McIntire Rare Collectibles, in Jacksonville, Arkansas, are specialists in Confederate currency, militaria, and other "Southron" Antiquities. The owner Robert McIntire can be really helpful. Their info can be found online. I have no ties to them and wouldn't advertise for them if not for their specialty in the field. Good luck and happy collecting!
It is true that there are many fakes of Confederate items. Many of the fake Confederate notes are well known and documented, and there are websites that list the known fake serial numbers for each issuer. The parchment paper type are commonly found, but those are all fake. Definitely need to do your homework in that area before laying your money down.
