Okay well I was going through my old toning bag from my coin collection and fell in-love with this nickel that is toned brilliantly blue. the problem is that the other side has no toning on it.. it's just a blue obverse and plain reverse. does this mean it's artificial toning? The coin is only like 15 years old (pics below) If it's if natural, what is it worth?
It looks natural to me. The coin can have a toned obverse and no tone on the reverse and toned reverse and no tone on the obverse, or simply toned on both sides. It does not add immediate value to the coin, but it does give it eye appeal which would make it more demanding then just a regular nickel. Nice coin
Cool. I think I will give this one away in my next week free coin give-away contest. ( along with some other coins )
I'm here because I like collecting coins. What do you have against me? If it's a circulated coin of course it's going to have fingerprints.. If I wipe them off what is so bad about that, what harm can come from it? This is the second thread where you've had an attitude with me. And the first time you did you said this... but now you are saying "hear" instead of "here"...
Actually a lot of harm. Scratches, hairlines, the lot. All this being said, I think it'd be worth one nickel.
haha, but i mean If i wipe real gently with some water and a tissue just to remove finger prints that willn't scratch it will it, and even if it does, would it really matter if it has a tiny scratch when there are like 60 other huge scratches because it is already a circulated coin?
eeeee! water and a tissue will leave hairlines, you should read this post from doug: it is only a circulated nickel that I still think is worth a nickel, but DO NOT get into the habit of thinking that wiping your coins is okay
btw, the oil from the fingerprints probably got it to tone this way, which makes me think they're kinda stuck there...
Okay so what's worth more then.. a nickel with visible fingerprints and 5,000 invisible hairlines or a nickel with no fingerprints and 5,002 invisible hairlines? Thanks DimeFreak, respect.
Let me settle the debate for you. That thing is only ever going to be worth 5 cents. Do whatever you like to it, the AT/NT debate is really irrelevant.
