My $100 bill

So I went to the bank today and deposited a stack of $100 . . . The teller pulled one out and thought it was a fake. . .

He said that the seal is on backwards? Everyone in the bank came over to look at it. . .some thought it was fake, some thought the paper was printed upside down or backwards. . .It looks legit. They rubbed it on paper and the ink came off green, not black. They used their black marker and it passed that test. The paper feels the same. The hologram strip thing is there . . . It looks real. The only other thing is that the image on the back is moved down from where it is located, I mean, it is not centered on the bill.

I can go back to the issuing bank and get it exchanged or see if it is worth something. . .any ideas/comments/suggestions?

I would post a pic but I think it is the watermark or something that is messed up and that would be hard to see . . .

hiho off to work we go

"They rubbed it on paper and the ink came off green, not black."
That reduced it's value a bit.

"They used their black marker and it passed that test."
That reduced it's value even more.

We can't really tell you much without a photo or a scan. But it sounds to me like the 3rd printing (seal and serial numbers) was inverted.

If this was the case it was worth money until the bank "tested" it. It may still be worth something, just not quite as much.

Post a photo, we don't really care about the watermark.

I'd say after all the rubbing and marking it's worth only a tad over face value. Then again, I don't collect bills so what would I know?

Not really, the marker will fade completely away within a few days (I got a 1934 $10 note from a bank a while back which had about 15 of the marks on there because the teller thought it was fake....5 days later, the marks were completely gone).

    YES, post a photo.

OK, it's a legitimate error note and even with the damage the bank inflicted on it it will still have a premium value. It is unfortunate the denomination is so large as that will actually keep the premium down. I would think that it would be worth at least $200. I

Did you note the date of that article? That was 13 YEARS ago. The note is pretty nice for being that old. Obviously it has been in storage somewhere for a long time.

From the information in the article there about 400 sheets of these may have gotten out, about 12,800 notes. Most of those have probably been replaced during the past 13 years.

f you sell it on eBay Make sure you explain exactly what happened to create the error since the error oes not rally show up on photos. I am curious though, was the paper placed in the press rotated 180 degrees, or upside down? (If it was rotated, with the bill upright the watermark will be on the left and upside down. If the paper was upside down the watermark will be on the left, right side up, but facing the wrong direction.) For the ebay pictures I would also try and get a back lit picture that shows the watermark.

To be honest I don't think that the marker or rubbing will decrease the value as much as everyone said.. I mean sure the rubbing will decrease it a little but I would still pay around the price I was paying for something like that.. the marker on the other hand is a little different but it lightens with a hair blow dryer.. and doesn't stay on forever.
It is illegal to draw on money and I see cashiers all the time marking dollars with this "ink" so it has to come off otherwise it would be illegal.
    regardless, really cool dollar dude!

Not really visible in a photograph but the watermark (i.e. Franklin's Profile) is on the wrong side.

The security thread is also on the wrong side.
