Here's the 1828 Half Dollar I posted some preliminary pictures of last week. As I suspected it's in better shape than the G-VG the seller listed it as. I'll go out on a limb at the risk of ridicule by list members and say it's in F-20/VF-25 condition. Bone
You know Bone I don't see the hairlines on the eagle like the first photo showd....maybe it was just the photo.... Speedy
Hmmm, not sure. I'll say this. They're are times when my camera will pick up marks which aren't visable to the human eye, like on gold coins and some toned halves. I use a Sony FD91 and a 100-160 watt floodlight bulb. B
Nice half! I'd certainly give it a F15 or 20. Not sure if it would have enough feathers or detail on the sash (like the clasp, which often shows partially in a VF as I recall) to get a VF? Anytime you can buy one to two grades from actual is a good time!
A question. How could it be a rip, unless it's a counterfeit which it isn't??? Just wondering. Even in G-4 shape it's at $55. Bone
No, I mean you got a rip, not you got ripped! In other words, if the coins squeeks in a EF and is worth $130 or so, and you grabbed it at $55, you were the 'ripper'. Legit rip of course, its an open market, but a rip just the same! I think I've spent too much time lurking on the PCGS board... I am starting to use their common terminology too much! Rip is a common term used there to say you got an unusual good buy, often cause the dealer did not know what they had, so you 'ripped' them.
Acording to the ANA gradeing book, it qualifys for F-20.and I agree. Nice coin at the going rate of $45.00-50.00.
very nice looking half....seems like you have the market cornered on finding these and taking them undercover-like.
