Does anyone know where I can buy the austrian 1 oz silver philharmonik in Vienna itself? I am looking for a web page of any Vienna coin shops or vienna banks ( banks sell this wonderful coin apparently) , or even a physical address in Vienna? Google has defeated me. And the Austrian Mint shop is way too pricey. Thanks in advance for any help.

Strange, it gave me this, in just a few hundred milliseconds.

The address of the Austrian Mint store in Vienna - a physical store, not the online shop - is: Am Heumarkt 1 (downtown, near the Stadtpark). Opening hours are Mon-Fri 9-16 h, Wed -18 h.

thanks for the vienna banks web page, great help . But I am still looking for the Vienna coin shops as well to see if they also stock this bullion coin. I suspect I may have to go to them to get the best price above the 7 % VAT everyone already charges above spot. Still, 7% is better than the 20 % here in the Uk :( Unbelievably the Austrian mint gave me a price which had 20 % VAT added on, so thats no use.

Umm, the 20% is the current Austrian VAT rate for coins - and yes, of course you pay that when you buy from an Austrian webstore, physical store or bank. If you bought the piece in Germany for example, the VAT would be 7%.

VAT is only 17.5% here in the UK John it will go up in January though. so if someone is trying to charge you a higher price pull them on it

thanks . Looks like i have my answer now. Very much appreciate all your comments and thanks for putting me right on issues in the Eurozone. Its an excellent silver coin and as we edge closer to a 'double dip' I will try and get it soon. regards. john.
