Excellent notion. True that coins have always appreciated over time, past performance should be no gaurantee of future predictability. If you look at it as an investment however, it is nice that you can leave gold coins as an inheritance without having to pay Uncle Sugar his 40% estate tax.

BTW -0 I think I got the last 2 1/4 ounce gold prrof from the mint this year. If you like it, I'll sell it to you for $400 a piece or swap it for a 1909 S Lincoln in MS 68 or better ;)

I hope that is a joke since buy/sell/trade offers are not allowed in this forum....but I just wish I had a 1909-S in MS68....also gold is one thing I don't collect.....

    Hmmm

We'll have to move this whole thread to the auctions section or put it under the gold and silver minute by minute update

in deed, it is still the most beautiful u.s. coin. silver eagle is more attractive than the gold eagle. and i don't like the words written as: one ounce - one dollar on it. it should be one dollar only. .999 silver and one ounce separated from one dollar with a very small lettering. because people did know what is that inside the content of american eagle silver dollar. as for gold eagle. i prefer one eagle rather than a family. and the platinum is excellent. but i don't buy it, i don't collect and i can't afford it.

Personally, I wish it was a $200 legal tender coin and allowed to geuninunekly circulate.

    american eagle series moves higher.

with gold and silver moving upward recently. do you know that the american eagle series will follow it?. an american eagle silver uncirculated coin will cost you around $12.50 to $13.00 each. and the statehood silver quarter minimum retail price for common date also moving to $4.00 each or $20.00 per set without sleeves or box. the modern common date commememorative silver coins dated 1983 to 1988 (without sleeves or box) will also jumped. now it will cost you around $13.50 to $14.00 instead of $10.00 each.

Still going up because of the price of gold, but uncirculated ones tend to go for about $60 and proof ones for about $100. Basically I'd say uncirculated ones tend to go for about 1.2 tomes spot and proof ones about double spot value... but varies a lot from place to place.

gold and silver keep breaking record high

with gold and silver enjoying boom market. the 1995 w american eagle gold and silver proof set can climb up to $10,000.00 a set. no wonder it is the most beautiful coins on earth.

I agree that the American Silver Eagles are beautiful, at least the obverse side. However, have you seen the Canadian Maple Leafs? The Australian Lunar Coins? The UK Britannias? Beautiful!

yes, i liked the british britannia silver coins. it is very attrative. but the price is quite high because of low mintage. i rather buy american eagle. same one ounce silver content. other like the chinese panda. which is o.k. but i did not like canadian maple leaf.

Personally I prefer the new Canadian wolf coins over the maple leafs. I mean, the maple leaf is well designed and detailed, but it's still just a leaf, lol...
