    "Undetectable"!!! Pfft! :rolling: Okay...

It's quite alright that you like it Ken. I don't want to admonish the ability to use laser technology in coin production. In its current use/effect, it's part of what turns me off about US Mint modern issues.

Krispy Kreme (lol)...there was a thread last September about an unattractive Puerto Rican quarter received in a 2009 Silver Proof Set. The frosting was missing on some of the devices.

After describing the likely cause, I offered to trade a pristeen set for this "damaged" set. They didn't take me up on my offer. :crying:

    The question is this...

    1. Given this new "frosting" technique, isn't there the possibility of new errors types?

    2. What happened in the minting process to create the Puerto Rican quarter and is it a common occurrence?

I haven't heard of any others like it.

If they're not "errors"...what are they? They're certainly not "On-Purposes".

Well, what is poor production/quality control...if not the elimination of "errors"? That's why the Mint searched 28,000 rolls of 2010 Native American dollars...to find any 2010 Zachary Taylor coins.

I see that same mark you note on Lincoln's shoulder on FS coins. The Mint person wipes the dies with a towel and a thread (or some hunk of material) stays on the die resulting in a "strike through"...which, incidently, is an error.

I just don't like to misconstrue the idea of a mint error. I don't think these are errors on the 2009 Cents in the LN6 set I received, the 'broken frost'. I think it's sloppy production and a result of a cheaper approach to achieving this frosted effect on proof coins. Maybe we can call it the 'global warming error' on frosted proofs...

Been doing a lot of thinking about going all in with 100 of each. I was sure it was going to at least double, now I'll just order another 8 proofs in case it still doubles.

Did you see the Puerto Rican quarter? It looks like the laser stopped halfway through frosting the leaf! This isn't a spot...it's half a frigg'n leaf!

Sure, they should have inspected the die before using it...but it's still an error (imho)...it's a whole new error type no one's seen before.

Yes I did see that and that is definitely an error in my book as well.

Once again, being politically correct, is bringing down our American history. Boy scouts is boy scouts, and girl scouts is girl scouts...both are honorable in their own right.:vanish:

There is a coin collecting merit badge? Why oh why on earth did I never earn that one? Sadly I'm decades too late to earn it.
