Nobody knows if they will be a good investment. If the future was easily predicted, everyone would be rich. But I don't think you would be wasting your money buying any of the AGEs -- there is no such thing as a bad gold coin provided you don't overpay. But here is an off-the-wall suggestion. Instead of trying to build a date set of AGEs, which limits many people to the 1/10th ounce coins because of the cost, buy the one-half ounce coins instead even if you can get only one. You might never complete the date set for the 1/2 ounce coins, but they have a couple of advantages. First, the mintages are lower than the 1/10th ounce. Second, it is the only $25 coin ever issued by the US Mint, which might make it a "must have" coin for certain type sets someday. Will these factors make a few 1/2 ounce coins a better holding than a full set of 1/10th ounce coins acquired for the same amount of money? I sure don't know. But if I was going to buy another AGE today, it would be the $25 half-ounce for those reasons. Then just put it away, look at it occasionally, and hope for the best. Also keep in mind that this suggestion is worth exactly what you paid for it, and comes without any guarantees.

I like the American Eagle as well and have double sets in silver for my children's birth dates. When they get older I will give them one of the set to them to carry around as their lucky coin. as for women-they like the lotto, you have to play it to win it and winning don't come easy but how sweet it is when it does happen.
My American Gold Eagle Collection As promised here is my AGE collection as of today. I have 3 additional coins coming in the next week. They are the 1992 1/2oz AGE MS69, 1/4 0z 1999 AGE Prf, and the 2 coin 1999 Washington Gold $5 Commems.... All slabbed coins are MS69 except 2 which are MS 68 and MS67 (they are the gold eagle error coins with the "W" mint mark on the uncirculated coins 1999. The 1/4 oz and 1/10th oz are complete sets..working on the 1/2 oz and 1Oz. There is (1) 2005 1oz Panda, (1) 1911 $2.5 Indian (1) $20 Liberty and (1) 2005 Kangaroo 1/10th oz..just a couple of "darkside coins" RickieB
Nice set Rickie.... If you need a place to store them...this is a safe place!...nobody is going to get pass my 12 gauge pump....if only I could buy Fort Knox....then I would have a SAFE place!! Speedy
Speedy and Cloud..thanks for the complements..it has been a fun search for nice coins (not done yet). The raw AGE coins were mostly from a dealer who has been searching for me for the past year..i am sure if I sent them in for slabing (PCGS) that they would come back no less than a MS 68 or Prf 69. They are all exceptional coins to look at. That is just the gold...there are some Platinum, and a whole bunch of Silver..from early Cameo Prf Frankies to Wash Qtrs, Rosies, Jeffersons, and Honest Abe himself. I joined them with some top graded early Silver Commems, errors, and so far every Mint and Proof set including the Silver ones since 1998. There are Silver and Gold commems and rolls of ASE, Nickles, and every Roll of State Qtrs that have been issued so far. Rolls of Sac's and Kennedys as well. Trust me when I tell you that they are all locked in a safe with 6- 8" 316L Stainless Steel lag bolts in a 10" concrete slab...built in a dedicated room in the basement with humidity control inside and out. The safe is 750 lbs empty and has 4- 3"dia bolts that contain the doorway...fire rated and will withstand a cutting torch. Besides my 3 yr old son would defend it with a bold stance. Thats his piggie Bank!! Thanks for taking a look...bets regards, RickieB
Ricky I believe that you are still in your marine zone for as you know you are attracted to a Napoleon linked coin representing his victory at Marengo with the helmeted female head. Others might be interested with the below for some background on this 2 year minted coin. Napoleon in Italy In 1796, France's army in Italy was under-fed, under-equipped and unpaid. It was also low on morale. It was this army that Napoleon picked up by the scruff of its neck and turned into the effective fighting force that would conquer northern Italy. It was to be the beginning of a long road to glory for Napoleon and France, and indeed, many have said that this, his first campaign in command, was his most brilliant. Nevertheless it only created a peace that was to last for two years and the year 1800 saw Napoleon once again fighting in Italy but with the dramatic victory at Marengo on the 14th June, he secured France’s dominance of Austria in both central Europe and Italy.
Thanks for the histroy lesson...I have researched that coin after I ran across it several weeks ago. Doug located it and sent the link with the pic that I posted. Intersting as it is, I find the coin to be "dramatic in it's beauty" and plan to accquire one within the coming year. Perhaps you are on to something there Andy...because in my Military mind..I am still a grungy Marine! Regards, RickieB
get boring i wish the mint will change its design on the american gold eagle bullion coins. i mean change the reverse design each year. just like the platinum eagle. well, keep the design on american eagle silver one.
Just a note to say that I removed the pic of my AGE collection again for personal reasons..for those of you who viewed it..thanks.. RickieB
american eagles yes, the american eagles series is still the champion. i liked silver eagle. i wish i could have a complete set. 1995 w silver eagle proof should be included to complete it.
american eagle to mr. speedy or gdjmsp: when and/or what year did the u.s. mint increase its price from $23.00 to $27.95?.
There is an old saying that "Beauty Is In The Eye of The Beholder". To each is own as to what is the greatest looking coin. I've never been able to decide which I like best.
You are doing better than you think! If you haven't seen the news lately, gold is up over $500/oz which means you have made at least $75 off just the one coin. Some speculate by the end of next year, gold will pass $800!!! I found and awesome article on www.paramountrcc.com about the value of gold. right now I have 2 $25 GAE's. You are definitely correct in KNOWING the GAE is the most beautiful coin on the market.
Take a look at cirtified Most collectors only want gold for their bullion value, However, graded coins always seem to draw more value than the cost of having your coins graded. I just sold a Gen 1 GAE series to this company for twice what I paid for it because it was graded. I think it was Paramount RCC but I am not sure. I have the number if anyone wants it. They were very helpful!
