Less than one might think... the US dollar recently hit a 4-year high versus the euro.

 

Since the coin contains 3215 troy ounces of gold, it looks like it sold at or near bullion price.

I remember seeing this coin in person a few years back, and it's truly a work of art. We had two very strong people trying to hold case it comes in on an angle for a photo op. They were pretty tired after five minutes straight of supporting the weight.

The Royal Canadian Mint spent a considerably amount of time making each one of these coins. Gold is very soft, so there were many examples that they had to melt down to start again until they had perfect coins.

 

I was pretty excited about the sale but my wife wouldnt let me bid............(8-(

 

If possible it would be fun to put that around your neck and go to a party!
