I'm in the process of getting my Liberty Nickel album completed...I have a couple of decent looking lower/mid grades, they have very dark brownish coloration in the backgrounds..other then that they'll do for now. How does this affect grading, or does it? I know on higher grades some discoloration has little affect...
A photo would help, but if it really is very dark brownish, the chances are much greater it is corrosion rather than "toning", and would lead to an "environmental damage" grade, but may still be very acceptable for an album collection. Jim
I think that would be classified as corrosion/environmental damage, where as when you look at the 1902 above, I see only tiny areas similar, the rest seems to be a dark gray toning. The 1907 is still an attractive coin, even with its problem. IMO. Jim
