Let's say you've got $5000 to spend on "The King of the Morgans" The 1893 S This week on EBay there are two available, both slabbed by NGC. One in F-12: bin price is $3,950.00 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160440936259&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT And a VF-20: bin price is $4,999.00 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300435960283&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT Two questions: Which one would you buy for the money, and why? Are those prices close to Greysheet bid for the grades?
Both prices are close to equal relative to the grade (5-7% over greysheet ASK). Therefore for me that would not weigh heavily in my decision. My considerations would be: - the rule of thumb "buy the best you can afford" - what the purchase does to my future ability to buy coins - eye appeal
If it were me, I would try for the VF coin since the seller also has a "Make Offer" option. I would try to negotiate the price as low as I possibly could without insulting the seller. Chris
Good advice, thanks. There's another pretty 93 S for sale on EBay right now. But this lady is just a bit out of my price range! http://cgi.ebay.com/1893-S-MORGAN-D...em&pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item2a05063810
I like them both but I do'nt have a hugh bank so between the F/VF I would probably pick up the F as it is a nice specimen of the rare date and would give me $1050.00 leadway to pick up another nice semi rare Morgan date for my collection as well. I am completing my collection around the rare dates and plan on buying them later so possibly I would have to see where it fit in my collection when I get to that point one day but I would most likely go with the F then to due to funds lol.
