    I have to agree that it's not going to help..
    If they gave out two dollar bills in change... it wouldn't be guaranteed however, because most people will probably be like "Oh this looks rare, let's keep it somewhere safe and not spend it"

    I thought the idea was to pay with a $2 bill not to receive one in change.

    I'd probably get some and go through them. The bank may not be willing to give all of them to you if they have them for a reason. I worked at a bank a few years back and we ordered $2 bills for a change order for one of our business customers who needed them. We always had them in stock for that business. We had one random customer come in and want $1000 in $2 bills and we had to tell him no dispite having them in stock.

    That's very interesting. I've always thought it would be simple to re-order $2's since they are not scarce and are available in ample supply. The guy who was denied most likely left with this impression.

    It is simple to reorder...but you have to have a certain amount in stock. I'll give you the example from the bank I worked at. One of our business customers was a local liquor store owner. They preferred to give out $2 bills in change because it was a more convenient than using $1s. So, they would come in 2-3 times a week and pick up the change order they called in...which would consist of normal rolled coin, some $1s, $5s and several hundred dollars in $2s. Because of this one customer, we normally ordered $800-$1000 $2 bills per week. We were only able to order one day per week. If someone came in on Wednesday (we got our shipments in on Tuesday) and got $500 in $2 bills, we would be short on our business order for nearly a whole week.

    You have to remember that banks are private businesses and they do favor certain clients. Large business accounts (like this liquor store) get priority over small personal accounts.

    Now, that said. If a customer said "I want $500 in $2 bills" and we couldn't give them out at that time...we could order them. That option was offered to this customer. They would have come in the following week. But, they weren't interested.

    That makes a lot of sense Camaro. Though I am wondering, what would happen if the bank failed to have that amount for the client (liquor store) when they would come to claim it?

    The way this worked, all the business customers who needed "change orders" had a back line phone number they would call and leave us a message telling us what they needed. We would then bag the money up in a tamper proof sealed bag and have it waiting for them. They would then come in with cash and buy the order. Since we were dealing with the same businesses over and over, we knew what they normally needed and could anticipate their order. Thus, we made our orders to ensure we had what they would need. If they needed a much different order then normal, they would usually let us know in advance so we could have it.

    On the rare occasions we didn't have enough to fill the order they called in (which at times we didn't) it could be a problem. Depending on the business, you could usually work it out. Either they would make due for the week with a little less if possible or we would contact one of our other local branches and see if they could provide the rest of the order for the customer. It was rare and usually could be worked out.

    The big fear was making a major business customer angry enough (or enough times) to find a different bank. The branch I worked at never had problems like that.

    No problem. I don't know if this is how all banks do it...but that's how US Bank does it.
