If you scroll down to their description, it might make you lol too. http://cgi.ebay.com/50-MORGAN-DOLLA...em&pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item5888466c6c Now the magic question is how would you get that off without totally destroying them?
I have two comments on this. 1. Wow, I have no idea, professional cleaner, but that might cost more than the coin. If you are fearless maybe something that might remove the adhesive? 2. I thought DHL went out of buisness? Just thought that picture was funny
Actually, I like the "these coins suck" part of the listing....honesty is noble on ebay...just sayin'
It looks like some idiot put double sided tape on these coins possibly could safely be removed using acetone
I've known them to be great dealers, and they deal in a lot of high value coin deals, mostly due to quantity of coinage they have. I'm not gonna lie, I did a spit-take with the description. "These coins suck" HA!
I've bought from them, just not from the auctions. They like to make "deals", or get you to buy a volume of something. They are good people.
If it were me and what I'm seeing is tape, I'd start with a long soak in distilled water. The aim would be to get most (if not all) of the paper off. After that I'd use acetone if there were still paper/adhesive remnants. Any wiping I'd do would be gently with Q-tips. Drying would be done by patting (not rubbing) with a cotton towel.
You have to start off knowing that there is $750 worth of bullion and deduct melt costs. Anything you do to try to enhance their value by cleaning/conserving is a cheap or no cost lesson. It's a great silver dollar conservation learning set.
Removing that tape should not be difficult. But you will still have a funky toning pattern on the back. Frankly at the current price ($510) it wouldn't be a bad deal at all.
First of all, it's Blue Moon Coins (whatever happened to the young women that were in their images a year or more ago...they were much easier on the eyes than Ken Vilkin?). Winner will receive all 50 dollars shown here. These coins suck and all have some kind of goop or adhesive or screwed up tape on the back. These are genuine Morgan dollars but that is about the best thing we can say about them. AG.IBB/FTR An acetone bathe should take off that sticky backing on many of them. Also, I believe DHL is still around, though they are just delivering FROM the U.S. to international destinations. Could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure thats where DHL stands (big brown monster gobbled them up on a national level).
They have a new girl that is always holding the gold buffs in front of her eyes. I don't think they will go for the current bid and buying them at spot would be more realistic. It might be a good project for somebody with a lot more time than I have, and less equiptment that polishes metal like a buffer and the like. (cuz if it was me I'd most likely run out of patience and think about using it, that would be bad, very bad)
