So Ive decided recently to start buying slabbed coins instead of proof sets off ebay because they all seem to be opened cases when I get them.

So while browsing Ebay I notice the same coin but with different "header" inserts. For instance, the 2009 lincoln cent, Ive seen some with just a plain silver "header", while others have a picture of lincoln with a flag drapped across he top.

Ive also noticed the same thing on some presidential dollars, some have a picture with a signature while others are plain silver.

What is the difference between these? Do people pay extra for the decorated headers inserts? Because I feel myself more attracted to those for some reaason. :goofer:

Thanks for the information, Im enjoying learning!

What if anything would one look for to recognize a fake pcgs coin holder?

Well, the TPG's do have many different slab inserts, used for different years, or different types of issues. I don't think one should pay extra money for a slab insert though, buy the coin, and not the slab, or the colorful insert for that matter.
The inserts, to me, are just like First Strike and Early Release labels, it doesn't mean a dang thing.
Also, if I were you, get PF69's rather than PF70's, you'll save money that way, with a coin that looks exactly the same.

When it comes to fake PCGS holders, there a lot of ways to tell if it is a fake. My BEST advice to you is to not buy from China, and buy from sellers that have sold a lot of coins. Many sellers specialize in modern coins, and sell mostly PF graded modern coins, try finding one of those, nothing is ever 100%, but I'd put my money that you won't get a fake slab. Remember, no China, and your odds for having a real slab are already near perfect.

Thanks for the info, Im sticking to pcgs mainly I was just wondering if the person who submitted them paid extra for the nicer insert. I am sticking to PF69s, because I dont have the experience or know how to tell the difference anyway and the price difference is so big.

And no China, got it. :)

I know they can pay more when submitting, it just makes a better collectors presentation. It also works best when you have a nice flow, like sticking to one TPG and one type of slab if you can.

Seems like you already get the two big things, PF69 and no China :thumb:
