Nice batch of coins. I like the second the best - it would fit nicely in my dansco album if you wish to donate it.
those are some great liberty cap cents marshall. especially like that S87. i can only hope to expand my collection that much in time.
The thing about the old coppers is that each has a unique appeal to different people. Any of these could have found themselves in the hands of our nation's founders at some point and by the looks of them, probably did.
Nice selection of 1796 Liberty Caps. I also like the S-85 best due to the smooth surfaces (its R-5 rating helps too).
It's almost too smooth. Fortunately, the outer leaf under S is still showing enough to make the attribution unassailable. An interesting thing I'm researching today is the CUD on the S-89 above TAT. I cannot find a prior example with this CUD and I shot an Email to Bob Grellman to see if he knew at what die state this appeared. I'm hoping it's the first report of this CUD, but he should know for sure.
Why is it that most of those and even 1/2 cents seem to have a little punch hole in the center of the reverse?
The saddest thing about the S-86 is that the cut appears to be recent with original pink copper from the recently exposed metal. Perhaps a dug up coin that the shovel hit.
I think many people looked at it as a convenient washer and discovered after varying effort that it wasn't as easy to poke a hole in as supposed.
