First off, yuck. Secondly, what if that happened, after it was put in the holder? Then it would be a different conversation. I can't honestly think that PCGS would grade a coin like that. Without those spots, the coin's current grade would make more sense.
Apart from the spots, what makes you think it's MS62? Is it possible the spotting occurred after the coin was graded/slabbed? Edit: Dang! I gotta type faster!
I don't know if it happened after the slab, but it's up for auction this Sunday on Teletrade. Honestly, I don't think I would pick that up if I saw it in the dollar bin at the local flea market.
Agreed, but "apart" from the spots...the spotting likely occurred after it was slabbed. I'm not saying the coin should have that grade today...just offering a possible explaination why it received that grade in the first place.
Well you see that day there was a flu going round the office, everyone was coughing and hacking and everybody just wanted to get out of there and get home, so they just wrote down a bunch of grades, in random and got off early, 63, 65, 67, 66, au58, vf30 et al.
Yeah it looks like the same situation that happened to my Kennedy, that I posted a few weeks ago. BTW, what is the PCGS address I could send my Kennedy to, anyone know? thanks I felt like Mr Magoo, ending up with this coughed on Kennedy. http://www.cointalk.com/t111114/
Looks like somebody thought stashing one of the most highly reactive coins the mint has ever made, in a shoe box under the bed was adequate storage. Somebody failed.
