I found in my 2009 silver proof set that the polk dollar has raised jagged and sharp edges both sides, and a scar across liberty's face. Anyone else seen this, and should i have this checked out?
Here is what i got so far, you can see the edge between of america, it is attached. you can see some of the raised edge by states. and the scarring across the face and neck under a lens look like another piece of metal got stamped onto it.
These are fairly common, I think they might be called "razor edge" Not too much premium associated with it. (Although I did see a seller out of Titusville, FL wanting a fortune for it)
Don't forget to look at the silver streak going down across liberty's face and neck. I'm gonna try to get a better shot of that. It almost appears looking thru a lens that metal was in the die when it got stamped
That looks like a 'struck thru', maybe metal across the face? Do you guys still think this is common?
It looks like some kind of bad punch, look at the edges, and the marking on liberty's face under a lens appears to be something stamped into the regular surface, maybe the missing chunk from the rim?
Check this link for the silver streak. may not be the same thing, but maybe is. http://www.fredweinberg.com/inventory/item.php?ID=6165 I think the price on it is $3500.00
Looks very much like the same thing, piece of metal in the die when the coin was punched, and nice price too. One would think a proof would be worth a bit more. Thx for sharing that with me
While I do not think these are the same, your best bet would be to contact Fred directly for his opinion. He does respond to email on his website.
