    STRANGE Kennedy reverse

Found this VERY STRANGE 1971-D in my second box of halves today.

What is it? The eagle is literally bald and featureless and the shield is almost the same with just a few of the bars barely showing up. The overall condition of the coin is at least AU, almost UNC.

Is this a grease filled die strike? Anyone care to venture an opinion?

Probably grease filled die, as you said.

One box of halves today, shutout.
I did find in the reject slot 2 5 pence, 4 10 pence and one 500 Yen coins....

Yeah, that's what I thought. When I look at it, it sort of reminds me of the blinder caps that are used in falconry.

Looks like your luck is about like mine this week with the boxes. Finished up box 2 and got 2 40% and the coin pictured.

    Better luck! :)

$9 in loose halves, 1-90%. $30 in CWR halves, 6-40%. $90 strings rolled halves, 1960-d Franklin and 1-40%. Any day finding a Frankie is a good day.

Our best day yet for my son and I on Friday. We were traveling between states so spent about an hour stopping off at various banks. Ended up getting $320 CWR at one bank, $90 CWR and $60 CWR and then a few loose. Nothing in the 320 or 90. The $60 in CWR ended up being 1 roll of nothing and 5 rolls of nearly full silver. In total there were 6 - 1964s and 91-40%s for a total of 97 coins. The loose had 1 Franklin and 2 Walking liberty.

I'll post photos on Monday when we get back.

Talked to my buddy in Florida who ordered another box. Ended up with 14 - 40%, 8-1964s and 17 Walkers (1918, 1919, 1920 and the rest in the 30s and 40s). Again I'll post photos on Monday. I swear there are more people turning in coins down in Florida. Every week they are having great finds.

Hopefully the rest of you had similar luck

    Wow....Nice finds people......

    My day today:
One box of Halves: Shutout (3rd in a row)
52 of loose and CWR: 1975 Medio Balboa, 1 1964, and 1 1959d Frankie in EF....a beautiful coin!!!! And, as stated above, any day finding a Frankie is a good day.

Also, the teller gave me a 1954 silver Rosie and I found 14 rolls of LP4. I hadn't found any of those until now (except for a couple of coins 2 weeks ago).

On the Frankin Half: Can anyone else tell a Frankie from the edge. When I open a roll, I can tell a 64 JFK from a Frankie while looking at the edge and wondered if anyone else can. I can't say what is different, but it looks different to me. I'm not right all of the time, but am about 90% of the time....

Yes, Florida seems to be the hotbed but it makes sense due to all the retired persons in the area. They have been around long enough to have all of those coins and being on a fixed income they are going into reserves more frequently with the economy. If you go back and read this thread from the beginning, Florida always produces the most consistently "Great" finds.

Searched through my wife's change jar, found my first ever steelie, pretty cool! Was a 1943 D in darn nice shape for being zinc covered steel and that old.

It sounds so strange to hear that. When I started my collection (such as it is) in 1957 we used them all the time. Called them "Lead Pennies" because they were the same color as the pencil leads we had in school. Then, because they were only minted in a single year, I started hoarding them. Even put some really nice ones in folders, etc. But you are correct about finding them in circulation. I haven't seen 1 in decades, I think.
