Hey folks. Just wanted to share my newest purchase. A 1908 quarter eagle. One of my favorite designs ever, and now my first gold coin! I think its a solid AU or a MS60. I got a great deal on it. Thanks for looking!

Its too bad the reverse has a lot of bag marks and nicks...the obverse is really great.

    Very Sharp Coin,
I dont know the series well enough to venture a grade guess though. Looks good as gold to me though.

The gold Indian head design is sure one of my favorites! Let me caution you that these are very, very heavily faked... and some of the fakes are quite good. The TPG's have photo archives of most of the tells for the copies, and I would not buy one for over melt unless it were in a quality slab. The Fivaz-Stanton book on gold fakes only has one '08 QE listed, and this isn't it, I'm glad to say, but there are undoubtedly others. Just urging you to be careful, in a friendly way!

That to is one of my favorite designs. Once I complete my CC morgan collection I will be moving on to this one. Great pick up.

Thanks for the kind words everyone, and thanks for the education, ksparrow. I know that the quarter eagle and half eagle indians are among the most counterfieted coins out there. I got this at a very very reputable dealer for just a tad over bullion cost. I saw it among four or five others including a couple in NGC slabs and this one just screamed out to me. It is just as worthy of a good home as the others in slabs. He isn's even dirty or disruptive! Checked it out all the way through... weight, diameter, appearance, etc. I have always loved this coin and I'm just glad to finally have one. :)
